The Earth and Space Sciences (ESS) Department provides an interdisciplinary approach to studying the Earth, Earth processes, the environment, and astronomical bodies and phenomena. The department offers courses in a variety of disciplines, including astronomy, environmental science, geography, geology, and meteorology. Courses within the department incorporate a variety of other themes, including human impact on the environment, globalization, and culture.
The Earth and Space Sciences Department utilizes a wide variety of first-class equipment, including a seismograph, a National Weather Service weather station, extensive map, rock, and mineral collections, and 8" and 10" telescopes. In addition, ESS classes regularly take advantage of the SRJC planetarium facility.
ESS classes provide students with the opportunity to complete a variety of General Education requirements for graduation and transfer, science preparation for majors, professional development, and self-enrichment goals.
